Our Grass Maze evolved from a temporary turf maze, inspired by a Celtic design, whose form was cut into the existing lawn. Today it is shaped with Anemanthele lessoniana, or pheasant’s tail grass, which comes from New Zealand.
This is a bunch forming grass which grows out from the centre, making it a robust selection to withstand the rigours of numerous visitors making their way to the heart of the maze. Anemanthele lessoniana is an evergreen grass whose emerging growth is green, but which colours to take on golds and reds, which grow to produce soft mounds which waft in a breeze.
